I’ve heard it said before that if it doesn’t scare you, it isn’t worth it. And if I’m being honest, creating a course from scratch and launching it out into the world was absolutely terrifying.

But I’m so glad I did. I’ve felt this calling to help make the lives of moms everywhere easier and this is another step towards that.

In this course, moms are learning how to:

League City Baby Photographer

And here she is! Ellis is six months old – and so full of personality! If you missed it, check the previous post for her adorable 4thof July themed newborn and family session! This gorgeous girl has grown so much since I last saw her. She transformed from a sleepy little snuggle bug into a bright-eyed wiggle worm! The six-month milestone is one of my favorites because they’re so interactive and curious, wanting to explore anything they can get their hands on. The toothy grins are my absolute favorite!

For baby Ellis’ milestone sessions, Mom requested that I come to their gorgeous home in League City and photograph their family in their "natural environment.” Lifestyle sessions are some of my favorites because I can really capture the full personalities of each member and the sweet candid moments of everyday life together. We really did it up, and I had so much fun being a fly on the wall as they did their thing, which meant lots of smiles and tickles on Mom and Dad's bed, an extra bubbly bath with popsicles, strawberries for snack time, and some naked baby fun in Ellis' nursery! Not to mention that her outfits were cute as can be! Look at Ellis’ beautiful velvet headband and floral PJs along with her older brother’s cute striped jammies!

No matter what fun activity was next (or what mess was being cleaned up), there was SO MUCH LOVE in this house. I truly feel like this session was pure magic, and I hope other families will want to do in-home lifestyle baby sessions more often! The love and priceless moments together far outshine any imperfections you might see when you look at the house. (I get it, I’m a mom, too. But trust me on this!)

Houston Newborn and Family Photographer | Studio vs. Lifestyle Sessions

As a Houston newborn and family photographer, I have the pleasure of providing two types of services for my clients: In Studio Sessions and Lifestyle Sessions. These two styles of photography provide totally different outcomes. If you have a session booked in the future, or if you are unsure of what to expect, here are the differences and similarities between in studio and lifestyle sessions:

Lifestyle Sessions

Lifestyle sessions are typically done in home, and include the whole family as the focus of the session. I love lifestyle sessions. They allow for more candid photographs, such as natural smiles, laughter, and play. This is a time for you and your family to go about spending time together in different ways. Meanwhile, I'm in the background capturing your raw emotions. Many activities can be done in the home during a lifestyle session. Such as playing a game, reading books, or even baking cookies! This is a great session if you and your loved ones are wanting to have real life moments documented.

Studio Sessions

In studio sessions, on the other hand, are a bit different. These sessions typically focus on newborn or small children, and tend to be more styled and posed. Working in the studio provides you with intimate photos of your kiddo. Like lifestyle sessions, your child can do what he/she does best...sleeping, playing, or even a cake smash experience. The difference is that this must be prepared in advance, rather than spur-of-the-moment. I love being able to make my client’s vision come true, so I try to prepare the best background and props to fit your preferred style!

Houston Family Maternity Photographer | Ellis Family

I'm so excited to share this session with you all! Megan and I have been friends for a few years now. I know her from before my full-time photography years when we were teachers together. Watching her family grow has been one of the most rewarding things I have done as a Houston Family Maternity Photographer. During their first pregnancy, I was lucky enough to be their maternity photographer. Obviously, when she approached me about her second pregnancy, I answered with a resounding, "Yes!!"We decided on an outdoor session, which I loved! They are just so natural in front of the camera, so the setting seemed perfect. Watching little man kiss her belly and try and sneak some "all-organic" snacks throughout the session made me laugh so hard! What a cutie pie!They are excitedly expecting their second boy. Yay! I can only imagine how crazy life will be with two little ones running around. I'm so happy that they took the time to not only celebrate the upcoming arrival of their second son, but to celebrate the time that they have left with their first little man as their only child. Life is all about growth, and this gorgeous family is growing! It's always a blast when I get to work with them.

Outdoor Houston Tx Maternity Photographer - Shannon

You can’t tell, but literally less than one hour before we were able to get these shots, it was pouring cats and dogs! I was super nervous that we were going to have to reschedule the session, but Shannon (this gorgeous mommy-to-be) had already had her hair and makeup done so we decided to wait it out. Thank goodness we did, because these pictures really did turn out amazing! Houston is notorious for flooding, thanks to a less than ideal drainage system, so we had to change locations from my usual go to spot to this empty golf-course unless we wanted to get some underwater shots. I love being pushed out of my comfort zone...that’s when the magic happens! I might actually try and use this spot more often since these pictures came out so well.  I have a newborn photography studio in Pearland, but often I get to be one (of many) Outdoor Houston Tx Maternity Photographer.  For this session, that's exactly what we did!This session was full of happy little bits of serendipity. Because we had to wait a bit to start the session, it ended slightly later than initially anticipated. What a wonderful thing to have happened! Just look at that sunset we were able to capture! How perfect is that soft golden light kissing her darling baby bump?!As a photographer, one of the best tools I can have in my arsenal is flexibility. Without it, I would missed out on the opportunity to get what I think are some truly stunning shots of this breathtaking mama-to-be and her sweet husband. Yay for silver linings!

Houston Natural Light First Year Photographer - Sweet Little Daisy

 Oh my gracious guys…. This girl. How in the world could I possibly begin to express how incredibly adorable this little princess is?! As a Houston Natural Light First Year Photographer this session made me absolutely swoon! I love when sessions turn out as truly stunning as this one did. We were able to get so many adorable candid shots of Daisy at such a fun age. So many fun moments from the session, and such cooperative lighting that day! Between the ruffled tutu, vintage jumper or big-brother cuddles, there’s no way I could possibly pick my favorite! We approached this session as more of a lifestyle session and just let her do her sweet little thing. I wanted to start the session with her big brother so that she could get acclimated to her new environment and have the confidence to strut her sassy little stuff. Let me tell you, Miss Daisy did not disappoint! When it comes to this age, as a Houston Natural Light First Year Photographer, I have found that I really like to try and let them run the show. If she wanted to jump up and down, we jumped! When she wanted to cuddle, by George we cuddled! Oh man, have I expressed my joy for sitter sessions?  If not, I want to go ahead and take the time to express it now: I LOVE SITTER SESSIONS! :)  Having this little one's parents hire me to be their Baby Boy Houston Photographer, I was just so thrilled to be a part of their story.  I also loved how baby sister hung out behind the camera to get those genuine smiles that I just love.  I love when siblings come to help because it gives them a chance to feel like they are a part of this big picture while being the "grown up one."We stuck to Cora & Violet's adorable hoodie rompers, warm wood tones, and my white wood backdrop.  I loved this session because since Maddox is a baby planner client, I had the pleasure of photographing his mom’s maternity session, and his newborn session.  So watching him grow is a true joy for this year.  They came back to visit me at the studio for his sitting milestone session and we had so much fun dressing him in my studio wardrobe clothing and getting him to smile!  I also incorporated one of the props from his newborn session to show how much he had grown.  We also used a wood bowl, my log bed that I adore, a favorite blue bear stuffed animal from his very own nursery, and of course, one of Luneberry's sky blue flokatis.Here are the highlights from this adorable session!

Houston Maternity Session

I hope that everyone's week is going well and I am so happy to get back to blogging.  I got a little behind to spend time with my babies and sweet husband over the weekend, but I wouldn't let it get me TOO far behind.  I understand how important it is for clients to not only see my newborn work, but also my Houston Maternity Session previews!  :)  I also strive to keep my content up to date and fresh, so that my clients can witness my growth.  It's super special to be able to grow as an artist and entrepreneur, and I am just lucky to be able to document all that beautiful growth!  Now, onto this awesome natural light Houston session!Meet Shayla and that glorious baby bump of hers.  Such a sweet and beautiful mama.  Motherhood is amazing, and she sure does wear it well.  We also made the focal point of this session about the big brother twins.  We had so much fun, but I sure had my work cut out for me with twin boys.  The best kid of work, that is! <3  It can be hard to expect a two year old to follow instructions, so its best to just go with the flow and let them have fun!  The results will mean so much more when you capture REAL life and let them be themselves.  It's one of my favorite things about documenting all these beautiful Houston Maternity Sessions, and I find that those are the images I cherish most.I have known this family for several years.  I had the honor of first working with them for their first maternity session when mom & dad were expecting twin boys!  I also photographed their newborn session and that was a huge milestone for me as it was my very first twin newborn session.  I am thankful they reached out to me to document their pregnancy and newborn session with baby #3…a sweet and gorgeous baby GIRL!We did this session last May and mom really stressed that she wanted to avoid the Houston heat.  My good photographer friend Catherine Lubbat has an awesome studio location in downtown Houston, and she was gracious enough to let us use this as our location for their indoor maternity session.  The clean white walls, stained concrete, and sheer window coverings create for a dreamy yet clean palate for sessions in this location.   And I absolutely LOVE the results!

Houston Maternity Session

Happy Tuesday friends! Is it just me, or is this Houston weather crazy?! As I was playing catch up on my blog, I remembered this particular session being so warm and cozy...I nice change from our crazy weather! When I was asked to be this sweet family's Houston baby and Maternity Photographer, I was thrilled.  This session had all the feels and I just HAD to share it.This session took place in this gorgeous family’s Houston Heights stunning home. With neutral décor and colors, this just really made my job as a bump-to-baby photographer so much easier. Think… greys, tans, whites…. a Houston baby and Maternity Photographer ’s dream come true and neutrals just really make for classic and timeless portraits. Being that this was their first pregnancy the only sibling that we had to include was their sweet and rather large fur-baby. We wanted to keep everything super simple and preserve the emotions that go along with being new parents. We included the book (pictured below) and stayed in the rooms that had that dreamy and ethereal natural light, while focusing on mom and dad. As we all know, pregnancy can be stressful and they may not always go as planned; each and every pregnancy is unique! This session was originally going to take place outdoors but things didn't go as planned with Ashley’s pregnancy and she ended up on bed-rest. When unforeseen circumstances come up, I work to serve each of my clients with the best customer care so that we can still document this special time in their lives. So I packed up my camera gear and took to their beautiful home and did a lifestyle Houston baby and Maternity Photographer session, which has ended up being one of my favorites to date!I was even more excited that they booked my bump-to-baby plan so I also shot their sweet and precious newborn just a few short months later in my Houston studio.I hope all of my fans, fellow photographers, friends, and visitors love this session as much as I do. Houston baby and Maternity Photographer

This post is long overdue, but it was one of my favorite sessions from 2014 so it deserved its own blog post. I had the pleasure of photographing this family in their home last year to document their sweet Georgia's 6 month birthday. Mom set up a beautiful nursery perfect for their sweet girl and I had so much fun photographing their family in this lifestyle baby milestone session. I love it when parents have their own visions for a session because it gets my creative juices working and forces me to think outside the proverbial "box". And when you get to photograph gorgeous people, it makes for some gorgeous photos. I hope you enjoy this little sneak peek into this sweet family's life and their pure love for their baby girl.
