When should you book your maternity portraits?

I always encourage clients to book their Houston maternity photos early in their 2nd trimester, to ensure availability on our studio calendar. Maternity photos are best captured between 28-34 weeks of pregnancy. For this session, professional hair and makeup were provided by my amazing hair and makeup artist Ashley at https://www.agmakeup.com.. Professional hair and make-up are always available as an add-on to every portrait session.

Hatfield Family Pregnancy Announcement Photos

The first couple months of pregnancy come with a certain unique type of excitement. The expecting couple knows their little secret, but the rest of the world is completely unaware. Sometimes it’s kind of fun having big news that no one knows about, but at the same time, the couple is just counting down the days until they can announce it to the everyone! (I once had a client who shared the news with unsuspecting strangers while running errands around town because he just could not contain his excitement about their pregnancy, and he wasn’t allowed to share with family and friends yet – adorable! ) Bringing a tiny human into the world is no small thing!

The Hatfields are new clients, and they booked me so they could announce their pregnancy to their family and friends in a fun way! We shot this in my favorite field just south of Houston. I love this area because it feels so peaceful and quiet. The hanging moss makes the trees appear so enchanting as it blows in the breeze – a perfect backdrop for this sweet couple to savor this experience together.

They brought along a cute letter board and balloons to the session, so we had some options to share their exciting news. I love that they incorporated the sunshine yellow into their session. It really popped against the darker natural colors of the field and trees for bright and lively photos.

This is their first baby so it was a very exciting & special time for them! They ended up booking a baby plan so I had the honor of photographing their maternity and newborn session a few months later. Their little man had the best lips I have ever photographed on a newborn, so I'll be sure to share those in a later blog post! Stay tuned for this sweet story.

Natural Light Houston Maternity and Family Photography | Konen Family

Outdoor sessions are my favorite, especially when the weather is perfect. The fresh air and natural scenery just have a way of helping people relax and be themselves. On this particular evening with the Konen Family, we couldn’t have asked for a prettier day. A light breeze blew through the tall green grass, and we had the space all to ourselves as we explored our little area of the park.

The Konen’s are expecting their second little one…and it's a boy! I had the pleasure of photographing their daughter’s newborn session a few years ago so I've got to watch their family grow! This is definitely one of my favorite parts of my job! How much fun it will be to watch this brother and sister grow. After photographing so many families, I’ve noticed that brothers and sisters have such a sweet, unique bond. It’s funny to watch them play with trucks and tutus interchangeably, and it’s fun for the parents to watch their kiddos' own unique personalities develop, too. I’m so excited for them to meet their little man!

We shot these in League City at a park that offered a boardwalk surrounded nature and gorgeous evening light. Their little girl was adorable and full of personality. I’m so glad they brought her along, too, to capture this sweet transition and growth in their lives as a whole family. She is a hoot and her cute expressions and antics made for some adorable family images – lots of laughs caught on camera! I love the photos of her kissing Mom’s tummy and the two of them dancing on the path. She’s still pretty young, but I think she’s warming up to the idea of having a baby brother. I can tell already that they are going to have so much fun together, and he will have a hard time keeping up with his energetic sister! Check out their adorable maternity and family photos below!

Galveston Beach Maternity Session | H Family

Oh, what a glorious evening for this dreamy sunset maternity shoot. Who says you can’t get some stunning beach shots in Texas?! This was as peaceful as it gets.

This glowing mama-to-be is one of the most outstanding baby planners I know. She provides supportive and knowledgeable maternity consulting for families who are expecting. I hope she has had just as much support from family and friends throughout her pregnancy as she gives to others.

This is their first baby, and I was honored to photograph their announcement photo a few months earlier. Both of them are so easy-going and fun to work with. This beautiful couple is so in love as they eagerly wait for their little one to arrive, and we thought a beach session would match their personality perfectly. Plus, it served as a relaxing getaway for the two of them to spend some quality alone time together. I am so in love with this peaceful maternity shoot!

This beach was GORGEOUS, especially on this particular evening, and made for some magical maternity images. The waves lapped gently on the shore as layers of pastel blue, pink, and purple painted a marvelous sunset behind them. She wore an elegant dusty blue lace dress that really made her dark hair and beautiful features pop. Then, as it got darker, she switched to a flowing white gown that accentuated her bump perfectly. I love the bright white against the setting sun – it really highlighted the two of them and her growing bump.

I could not be more excited for this lovely couple.They will be the most wonderful parents to their little one, and I can wait to meet their bundle of joy in just a few short months.

Houston Outdoor Maternity Photographer | Miranda's Maternity Session

I had a great time capturing Miranda and her oldest daughter for her Maternity Session.  Both of these ladies were as sweet as they are beautiful.  Their smiles were so bright and full of excitement about welcoming a little baby into the family.  Miranda was stunning in the eggplant gown that she chose from our studio wardrobe.  The gown cascaded beautifully over her baby bump.  It was a nice balance of getting dressed up for the special occasion but casual enough for their laid back outdoor session.

Mommy and Me Time

The sun was shining and the trees were gorgeous.  There is something about Houston that draws people here and keeps them here.  Aside from good ol southern hospitality, the trees and basically year round warm weather are high on the list of what makes Houston great.  They definitely made these January Maternity Photos possible.

Miranda and her daughter enjoyed this special day together.  I thought it was so sweet to do a mommy daughter session before welcoming baby brother into the mix.  Her little girl was so sweet and I could not wait to meet their little boy.  Since they booked a baby plan I knew I would not have to wait long to meet him.  I could hardly wait to capture his Newborn Session.

Being a pregnant mama is one of the most rewarding experiences one can go through. I am currently expecting a precious child, and it is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. One of my favorite parts of this time in my life is being able to share my excitement with my other children. Letting them feel the baby kick, having them pick out toys and outfits. Meet Natalie, a gorgeous mommy who is expecting another little addition any week now! We did Natalie’s session outside in the wonderful city of Houston. The outcome was beyond lovely – gorgeous evening light, a beautiful family, and great company. Natalie borrowed a couple of gowns from my studio wardrobe, and wow, did they look stunning on her! Her daughter was precious in the photos as well, along with her handsome husband.Altogether, this session with Natalie and her family turned out to be perfect! Isn't motherhood so sweet? Your children are the brightest stars in your sky. The only thing that matters. And it all starts with that incredible moment of realization...you have a little angel on the way! I remember when I found out that I was pregnant with my sweet little Penelope, and the excitement that followed. One of the most fun parts for me was getting to share this precious moment with my son, Jensen. I absolutely could not wait for him to meet his little sister! About this session

I had the opportunity to work with this mama and her sweet family for a maternity session a while back and I could not be happier with how it turned out! We did this shoot in my private field south of Houston. The love that flowed so easily between them was so beautiful and such an honor to capture! Seeing this little boy curled up and smiling next to his mama's belly was such a heart warming thing for me to watch through my lens.Mama wanted in incorporate a neutral look for her last outfit change. So we used a simple piece of fabric to giver her an organic look for her last belly portraits, and the result was stunning. With beautiful wild flowers all in bloom, a gorgeous golden sunset, and an even more stunning family, the shoot could not have gone any better!

Outdoor Houston Tx Maternity Photographer - Shannon

You can’t tell, but literally less than one hour before we were able to get these shots, it was pouring cats and dogs! I was super nervous that we were going to have to reschedule the session, but Shannon (this gorgeous mommy-to-be) had already had her hair and makeup done so we decided to wait it out. Thank goodness we did, because these pictures really did turn out amazing! Houston is notorious for flooding, thanks to a less than ideal drainage system, so we had to change locations from my usual go to spot to this empty golf-course unless we wanted to get some underwater shots. I love being pushed out of my comfort zone...that’s when the magic happens! I might actually try and use this spot more often since these pictures came out so well.  I have a newborn photography studio in Pearland, but often I get to be one (of many) Outdoor Houston Tx Maternity Photographer.  For this session, that's exactly what we did!This session was full of happy little bits of serendipity. Because we had to wait a bit to start the session, it ended slightly later than initially anticipated. What a wonderful thing to have happened! Just look at that sunset we were able to capture! How perfect is that soft golden light kissing her darling baby bump?!As a photographer, one of the best tools I can have in my arsenal is flexibility. Without it, I would missed out on the opportunity to get what I think are some truly stunning shots of this breathtaking mama-to-be and her sweet husband. Yay for silver linings!

Houston Fine Art Maternity Photographer - Edna

Have you ever gone through images from your past?  When you do, do memories come rushing to you?  The smell of the house that the picture was taken in, the way it was decorated (beautiful to you despite how dated that image looks these days to others), the sounds that were going on around you.  It's incredible what one image that you hold in our hands can create.  In your heart, in your mind, and the tangible memory that just a single portrait can do for you.  I met Edna and her sweet family back in May.  Being a Houston Fine Art Maternity Photographer, my goal is to create these tangible memories for each one of my clients. 

What do these documented memories look like?

Perhaps these memories will be for big sister.  The way her mom looked that evening when we did this session.  Having two kids of my own, I can completely relate to the feeling of extra weight, love wrinkles, some on my hips, some on my thighs and on some days... just not feeling beautiful-especially because of how quickly our bodies change during pregnancy.  But good heavens, the way that her oldest looked at her that night.  I think in that moment, big sister thought her mama was the most beautiful woman to walk the face of the earth.  And I agreed that night.  But those looks.  They demand to be documented.That happiness, the smell of the new summer blooms, the sound of the crickets, those annoying mosquitoes that aggravate nearly everyone, but the laughs we all got from it, and the pats coming from mama's tummy of a new life that soon will be earth side.Let me not forget the daddy!  They seem, sometimes, to get lost in the hustle and bustle of this new baby and new everything.  I will never forget the way that my husband looked the day he met my kids for the first time.  He explained to me that the tears that rolled down his face each time, were not only pure and perfect love for my children.  But that they were overwhelming sense of relief, happiness, and of course love.  Love.  Dad's provide safety and a love that is immeasurable and like no other.  Very unique to a man, but very needed.I am so grateful I played this part in this documentation of this part of their lives.  I hope sweet Edna and her beautiful and perfect family cherish these memories for many years to come. <3

Houston Maternity Session

I hope that everyone's week is going well and I am so happy to get back to blogging.  I got a little behind to spend time with my babies and sweet husband over the weekend, but I wouldn't let it get me TOO far behind.  I understand how important it is for clients to not only see my newborn work, but also my Houston Maternity Session previews!  :)  I also strive to keep my content up to date and fresh, so that my clients can witness my growth.  It's super special to be able to grow as an artist and entrepreneur, and I am just lucky to be able to document all that beautiful growth!  Now, onto this awesome natural light Houston session!Meet Shayla and that glorious baby bump of hers.  Such a sweet and beautiful mama.  Motherhood is amazing, and she sure does wear it well.  We also made the focal point of this session about the big brother twins.  We had so much fun, but I sure had my work cut out for me with twin boys.  The best kid of work, that is! <3  It can be hard to expect a two year old to follow instructions, so its best to just go with the flow and let them have fun!  The results will mean so much more when you capture REAL life and let them be themselves.  It's one of my favorite things about documenting all these beautiful Houston Maternity Sessions, and I find that those are the images I cherish most.I have known this family for several years.  I had the honor of first working with them for their first maternity session when mom & dad were expecting twin boys!  I also photographed their newborn session and that was a huge milestone for me as it was my very first twin newborn session.  I am thankful they reached out to me to document their pregnancy and newborn session with baby #3…a sweet and gorgeous baby GIRL!We did this session last May and mom really stressed that she wanted to avoid the Houston heat.  My good photographer friend Catherine Lubbat has an awesome studio location in downtown Houston, and she was gracious enough to let us use this as our location for their indoor maternity session.  The clean white walls, stained concrete, and sheer window coverings create for a dreamy yet clean palate for sessions in this location.   And I absolutely LOVE the results!

Houston Maternity Session

Happy Tuesday friends! Is it just me, or is this Houston weather crazy?! As I was playing catch up on my blog, I remembered this particular session being so warm and cozy...I nice change from our crazy weather! When I was asked to be this sweet family's Houston baby and Maternity Photographer, I was thrilled.  This session had all the feels and I just HAD to share it.This session took place in this gorgeous family’s Houston Heights stunning home. With neutral décor and colors, this just really made my job as a bump-to-baby photographer so much easier. Think… greys, tans, whites…. a Houston baby and Maternity Photographer ’s dream come true and neutrals just really make for classic and timeless portraits. Being that this was their first pregnancy the only sibling that we had to include was their sweet and rather large fur-baby. We wanted to keep everything super simple and preserve the emotions that go along with being new parents. We included the book (pictured below) and stayed in the rooms that had that dreamy and ethereal natural light, while focusing on mom and dad. When unforeseen circumstances come up, I work to serve each of my clients with the best customer care so that we can still document this special time in their lives. Maternity Photography Houston

Goodness. I loved everything about this Outdoor Maternity Photos Houston session from earlier this year. We had several reschedules due to the crazy amount of rain the Houston area got in the spring.   The evening we finally made it happen was so gorgeous! We had tons of beautiful sunlight, which gave this session a magical feeling.We used the blush and cream tones for their Outdoor Maternity Photos Houston session since they were expecting a baby girl.   I love how soft and sweet it made the session feel. The ground was still super soggy during this session so I had to get a little creative with posing and moving around the field (imagine swampy standing water all over)...but it all came out perfect.These clients booked my bump-to-baby plan so I also had the pleasure of photographing their baby girl’s newborn session and I can’t wait to share that with you soon! I have had the pleasure of working with this gorgeous couple 3 times over the past few years: first for their engagement photos, then their intimate wedding with close family and friends, and now I got to shoot their Houston Tx Maternity Photography session for their first baby!They are an extremely photogenic couple so it's impossible for them to take a bad photo! Houston Tx Maternity Photography

This Houston maternity session was one of those sessions where you just KNOW you are going to love every.single.image. We had the most perfect sun-drenched evening, a simply stunning mommy & daddy (to-be), a leaf blower to achieve that perfect wind-blown look, and lots and lots of LOVE. I had so much fun getting to know this sweet couple and I know their baby boy is already the center of their worlds. They booked my Baby Milestone Plan but unfortunately I had to miss their newborn session because I was on hospital bed-rest with my sweet Penelope when their baby boy arrived. But, I am super excited to get to meet baby boy this coming weekend when I photograph his "tummy-time" session in the studio! Stay tuned for sneaks of thier adorable little man!!

This gorgeous Houston maternity portraits session is definitely one of my favorites to date. Beautiful lighting, my favorite field location in the Houston area, stunning couple, and the perfect baby bump...I just loved everything about it!  Make-up was done by Alaina Saulsberry at Colour du Jour before our evening sunset session and she really did an amazing job.  I know this gorgeous momma from my days teaching Junior High when we had classrooms across the hall from each other.  We definitely had some fun that year being hall neighbors!This awesome couple booked me for the Bump-to-baby plan so I also had the pleasure of taking their little man's newborn photos. The Bump-to-baby is such a great way to document two important milestones in a family's life.  Maternity photos are best scheduled between 30-35 weeks when a baby bump is nice and established but before the uncomfortable stage of pregnancy begins those last few weeks.  I always recommend my mom's have their hair and make-up done for their maternity sessions because you deserve to be pampered!  Plus, professional hair and make-up photographs amazing and produces the best images.  They recently welcomed their baby boy and his newborn session was equally as perfect...but that will be posted in another blog post, so stay tuned! I realized I haven't blogged a full Houston maternity photography session in a while (or ever?!) so it was definitely time to show you some of this gorgeousness. These are some of my favorite sessions to photograph. This couple was not only beautiful, but totally and completely in love and it made my job so much fun! They booked the Bump-to-Baby plan with me so I also got to photograph their little princess a few weeks after their maternity session...that blog post will be coming at a later date!
