Houston Newborn and Family Photographer | Studio vs. Lifestyle Sessions

As a Houston newborn and family photographer, I have the pleasure of providing two types of services for my clients: In Studio Sessions and Lifestyle Sessions. These two styles of photography provide totally different outcomes. If you have a session booked in the future, or if you are unsure of what to expect, here are the differences and similarities between in studio and lifestyle sessions:

Lifestyle Sessions

Lifestyle sessions are typically done in home, and include the whole family as the focus of the session. I love lifestyle sessions. They allow for more candid photographs, such as natural smiles, laughter, and play. This is a time for you and your family to go about spending time together in different ways. Meanwhile, I'm in the background capturing your raw emotions. Many activities can be done in the home during a lifestyle session. Such as playing a game, reading books, or even baking cookies! This is a great session if you and your loved ones are wanting to have real life moments documented.

Studio Sessions

In studio sessions, on the other hand, are a bit different. These sessions typically focus on newborn or small children, and tend to be more styled and posed. Working in the studio provides you with intimate photos of your kiddo. Like lifestyle sessions, your child can do what he/she does best...sleeping, playing, or even a cake smash experience. The difference is that this must be prepared in advance, rather than spur-of-the-moment. I love being able to make my client’s vision come true, so I try to prepare the best background and props to fit your preferred style!

Baby Melgoza #3 is coming soon!

We are super excited and blessed to welcome baby #3 in less than 5 weeks!  Baby is expected to arrive by c-section on September 14th and we can't wait to find out the gender!  This is a sneak peek from our maternity photos taken by Andrea Surak Photography.  Please note that I will be on maternity leave most of September and October, but will be back shooting sessions in November....just in time for the Fall busy season & holiday portraits!

Fall 2017 Calendar - No Mini Sessions This Year

I wanted to formally announce that I will NOT be offering Fall Mini Sessions this year.  This will be the first time in 5 years I haven't offered them!  It was a difficult decision for me to make as I have so many clients I love working with each year for mini sessions!  But with the arrival of baby #3, maternity leave, and an already extremely full calendar of sessions, it just wasn't possible.This Fall I will only be offering regular portrait sessions (45-60 min in length and at full 2017 pricing).  If you are interested in booking a session, please contact me ASAP as I have very limited availability remaining in November + December. Newborn Session Availability

Houston Family Photographer | Kurian Family

Ah, the Kurian family… These three are some of the most amazing people I have gotten to work with as of yet as a Houston Family Photographer. I have known this gorgeous mommy for many years. And was super excited to photograph her and her sweet loved ones last year.

About this session

These three are definitely what you would call “the picture perfect” family. Every single photo turns out absolutely beautiful (and I mean every single photo)! Momma has become such a great friend of mine. I am just so grateful to see her with her handsome man and their precious daughter. This little one is just  as sweet as can be. Those eyes… that smile… can you say adorable?!

Elizabeth Stone once said, “Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.” This quote reminds me so much of the Kurian family and the love they share with their baby girl. Not only is it pure, but it is raw and it is out in the open for every one to see. I loved being able to document such sweet moments for these amazing people. I can’t wait to work with them again in the future!

Houston Newborn Photographer | Everett

This family is simply stunning and I loved working with them as his Houston Newborn Photographer.  Baby Everett was such a good sport throughout the whole session.  He was such a relaxed baby, so posing him was a dream. After a house full of girls, it was a fun day when a little boy entered the family.  Everett is absolutely precious and adored by the entire family.  His big sisters are smitten with him.  You can tell by the family portrait of everyone together that this little man has brought a lot of love out of everyone and mom and dad could not be more thrilled to add a new member to the crew.

About this session

Mom decorated his room in a nautical theme and brought along his personalized buoy for his session as a prop.  These are a few of my favorite images from last year.  I love that it has his name and birthdate on it, and he looks so cute relaxing in the center.  His chubby cheeks make me smile. He looks like he floats around in his buoy every day.  He is so relaxed and comfortable. It is always an exciting session when I am able to capture a newborn with their eyes open, and Everett brought some excitement to my day during his session.  The image of him with the adorable teddy bear hat and his eyes wide open is priceless.  His expression is too cute.

Houston Newborn Photographer | Elizabeth

I cannot stop looking at these gorgeous newborn portraits we captured of baby Elizabeth!  What a sweet little princess she is!  I was so excited to see this couple again!  They had selected to have their baby plan with me, so I photographed their maternity session a few months ago. I now have absolute pleasure of finally meeting this precious little new addition to their family. There is so much love between this couple. I know they will shower Elizabeth with all the attention and snuggles they can!  I mean, she’s gorgeous! Wouldn’t you?!?

About this session

This baby girl was just so beautiful, and I had so much fun planning out a custom newborn session with many feminine and floral touches.  The session took place in my Pearland and we selected some of my sweetest headbands and bonnets for Elizabeth as she slept so comfortably snuggled.  One of my favorites is Elizabeth atop the shabby chic antiqued box surrounded by pink roses and soft blush peonies.I cannot wait to see Elizabeth and her parents again for her one year session. Knowing how quickly that time will fly by, and I can’t believe this little girl will be standing by then!  I love watching these babies grow up in front of my camera!  And I hope to provide this family with many priceless images for their heirloom albums and gallery wall reflecting the milestone moments of this little one’s life as she grows.

Houston Family Photographer | Emma's First Year

Emma is such a precious little girl.  She was so expressive and excited.  It was a great time capturing her one year photos along with some updated family portraits.  I had the pleasure of photographing this family's maternity and newborn sessions, so I was honored when they contacted me about capturing Emma's one year session.

About this Session

Emma is such a happy, smiley baby.  Her sweet face, big eyes and giant smile made for some adorable pictures.  The big bows and accessories were merely icing on the cake.  Emma made my job as a newborn photographer such a joy!  The images of her in the high chair with the smash cake were just too sweet (see what I did there?).I love how she wanted to share with everyone, including her adorable puppy pal.  They were best buds!

Time to Clean Up!

After getting down and dirty in the smash cake it was time to get cleaned up.  Her bathtub images turned out beautifully.  The bubbles floating behind Emma and the was tub made for a great picture, but more importantly a detail that got Emma excited.  But there is nothing cuter than a happy baby being cheeky.  The images of Emma in the was basin from behind are precious. Their family portraits were a lot of fun too.  This family has so much fun together and the session was filled with laughter.  Their love for one another is beautiful and it shines through the images.

Houston Family Fun | Houston Astros

Looking for something fun to do this summer with the kids? Take them to a Houston Astros baseball game, and it will be an experience that they won’t ever forget! It can be hard for a mom to come up with fun activities to do with the kids during the summer, and we all hate hearing those words “Mom, I’m bored!” all summer long. This isn’t just something that the kids will love to do, but you will be sure to enjoy it as well! I always love going to these games and seeing the little kids wide eyed the entire time and jumping for joy when we get a home run!

Getting Tickets

I would recommend buying tickets soon because single tickets are currently on sale on their website. If you’re really looking for a great deal, I would go on a Wednesday night for dollar hot dogs! This is the perfect way to make memories with the entire family while not breaking the bank. I can’t think of a better way to end the summer before the kids head back to school! I would be sure to follow the Astros on all of their social medias to keep you updated.

Houston Newborn Photographer | Freya

This little lady is Freya—such a lovely name for a lovely, tiny bundle of a girl. Freya is her parents’ first baby, so I wanted her newborn session to be extra special and memorable for them. We pulled out all of the most feminine, delicate stops for Freya. She’s learning early that a girl can never try on too many headbands. Her own tiny style was all soft, girly, and floral; and we oohed and aahed over her as we swaddled her up and held her close.

About this session

Can you even deal with that little grin as she snuggles up to her momma? And the images of Freya and her daddy are almost too much to handle. They are just in love with her, and rightfully so. The images we captured in this session display the role Freya’s fallen right into in her family—she’s the gorgeous center of their world right now and she’s perfectly content in that place.I’m so looking forward to seeing her grow into her sweet personality and continue to explore her full range of expressions. Freya’s family invested in my baby plan so you will see this beautiful girl again.

Houston's Best Newborn Photographer | Fimbinger Twins Newborn

Meet Bodie and Pippa! This adorable set of boy and girl twins were so much fun to work with! I love getting to plan and prepare for twin sessions. It always me to be creative and really think outside the box! I am always up for the challenge when it comes to trying to incorporate both babies into props and poses! I always love having an assistant for all the newborn sessions. But with double the cuteness, it is so helpful to have an extra set of hands!

It can always be a little nerve racking when working with newborns because you just never know what mood they will be in, but surprisingly enough, these two slept peacefully the entire time. It was incredible to watch the bond that these two already have with one another! They snuggled up together, and I was even lucky enough to catch a few soft smiles from them!I know that they will grow up super close. It’s obvious that they are already adored by mom and dad. I am so blessed to have gotten to work with this amazing family, and I hope to see them again soon! I already have so many ideas for a double the trouble cake smash session for first birthdays!!!

Houston Baby Photographer | Grayson Turns One

I'm so excited that Grayson is one of my baby planner clients. It means I’ve had the pleasure of watching him grow up through the lens of my camera over this first year of his life. In this session, we captured his wide-eyed-wanderer, curious personality. It’s always fun to see what little characters those tiny babies from the newborn sessions turn into. Grayson was all the things you could dream for a little boy to be. Handsome, happy, adventurous, playful, cuddly with his momma, and brave like his daddy.

About Grayson's Milestone Session

By the time we reach the one year session with my baby planner clients, we have seen some pretty big moments together. As anyone would agree, a lot can change in a year.  This day and similar session are so evident of that. Mom had a fun little surprise to share at Grayson’s one year session…She’s expecting another baby and this time it’s a girl! We made sure to capture some of her adorable baby bump in one of my studio gowns.With one year under his belt, Grayson is going to make such a great big brother! He’ll definitely be able to teach his little sister how to dive into a cake and splash like crazy in the bath. Necessary talents for any proper one year old! <3

Houston Family Fun | Dog Parks

Dogs are family too!  There are so many great places to take your dog in Houston.  Check out some of these amazing dog parks where you and your fur baby can have a blast!

About Each Park

• Millie Bush Dog Park, named after President Bush's Brittany Spaniel, is on the top of multiple lists of best dog parks.  This 15 acre park is located within George Bush Park.  It is double gated and fenced with separate areas fore large and small dogs.  There are three large ponds for swimming and tons of space to run and play.  The park contains fake fire hydrants, as well as dog wash station, picnic tables and walking trail.

• Congressman Bill Archer Park has a fenced space for your puppy pal with separate spaces for the large and small.  The space offers agility equipment, a wash station, shade, benches. It includes a pond on the 17 plus acre space, as well as a walking trail and plenty of room for your pup to run

• Deputy Darren Goforth Dog Park offers a 1.97 mile trail, playground, adult agility area, fishing and picnic area that dogs are welcome in, on leash.  There is a fenced off leash area for man's best friend that allows them access to the lake as well as doggy agility equipment and separate spaces for large and small dogs.

• Danny Jackson Family Dog Park is not aesthetically pleasing to the human eye, but your fur baby won't mind.  It has plenty of space to run and two ponds to keep them busy with separate space for large and small dogs.  There are also benches, a walking path and wash station.

• Beverly Kaufman Dog Park includes separate spaces for large and small dogs, located within Paul D. Rushing Park.  It features shade canopies and doggy cooling stations.  There are also benches and walking paths for you and your pal.  The park also offers doggy water fountains and wash stations.

Houston Family Photographer | Stevens Family

The Stevens Family were a sweet delight to work with! They requested a natural, lifestyle approach to their family portrait session that would allow their little boy to be himself and have fun. I’m so glad they did. The Stevens are the ideal example that a photo doesn’t have to be posed to be perfect.

We got every emotion from this little man as he and his parents played and hugged and giggled together. They are smitten with their tiny southern gentleman. Let me tell ya, he’s even more smitten with them. The natural light and the breeze during this session kept everyone happy. And gave us some gorgeous opportunities to capture some truly stunning images. The Stevens literally had a glow about their family throughout our time together. It’s such a beautiful thing when that’s picked up through the lens.There was charm and laughter to spare as they just enjoyed each other in front of the camera, playing football and winning tickle fights. Capturing their family in their natural, easy rhythm together resulted in beautiful memories they’ll treasure for years to come.

Ryder One Year + Family Pics

I had such an amazing time with this sweet family. I have been so excited to be able to share this session with you! This mommy and daddy have 3 beautiful children. Ryder being their last one. Since he is the last baby this family plans to have, they wanted to document his first birthday with updated family portraits. Including some individual photos of their precious baby boy. These folks are seriously the sweetest, and made the session so much fun!

About this session

Ryder is as cute as it gets. His snaggle-toothed smile was seriously the most precious thing I have ever seen! Mom brought a teepee along as a prop, and I love the photos we were able to capture in front of it. Ryder and his two older siblings seemed to have a lot of fun with each other the entire session. The family portraits were absolutely stunning as well, and each of these family members had such natural, bright smiles.

We totally lucked out during this session, because the evening light was truly perfect. Ryder was such a wonderful little guy, and had the most amazing family ever. I feel so blessed to have been able to capture sweet memories for these people, and so grateful for such a magical session!

Houston Fine Art Newborn Photography | Landon

Hello all! If you know me at all, you would know that I love love love babies! Not only do I adore my own children, but working with other little ones never fails to fill my heart with joy. I have been so excited to share this session with you guys. This little client was the sweetest little New Orleans Saints fan on the planet! Landon was just a few days old at the time of this session. And was as cute as can be in every single image!

The Newest Saint's Fan

Landon's family are all obviously huge Saints fans. So his mama brought some great ideas along to incorporate their favorite team into the photos. She had a New Orleans Saints themed prop photo with an adorable hat to match, and a gold belly cast that Landon snuggled inside so sweetly. I loved being able to help her vision of this session come to life, and document these wonderful moments that will forever be cherished.When it comes to newborn photography, the additional of textural elements truly add a beautiful depth to the collections. My favorite from this session were the images of Landon, curled up in a mustard yellow swaddling blanket, accented with pops of deep teal and natural elements. Swoon! How gorgeous is this little guy?!Landon was so precious, and slept nearly the entire time. From the New Orleans Saints themed photos, to the simple traditional swaddling photos, I am so thrilled with the outcome! Welcome to the world, little Landon, and Go Saints!

Luxury Maternity Photography in Houston, TX | Natalie

Being a pregnant mama is one of the most rewarding experiences one can go through. I am currently expecting a precious child, and it is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. One of my favorite parts of this time in my life is being able to share my excitement with my other children. Letting them feel the baby kick, having them pick out toys and outfits. It all is just so fun for the whole family. That’s why when this mama contacted me, I was so excited! Getting to be a part of documenting special memories for families is exactly why I love my job.

Excited Anticipation

Meet Natalie, a gorgeous mommy who is expecting another little addition any week now! We did Natalie’s session outside in the wonderful city of Houston. The outcome was beyond lovely – gorgeous evening light, a beautiful family, and great company. Natalie borrowed a couple of gowns from my studio wardrobe, and wow, did they look stunning on her! Her daughter was precious in the photos as well, along with her handsome husband.Altogether, this session with Natalie and her family turned out to be perfect! They booked a Milestone Baby plan with me, so I have had the pleasure of watching their baby girl grow over the past few months. Congratulations, Natalie, on your new little one! Houston Family Fun | Typhoon Texas

Looking for a way to escape the heat of the summer while spending quality time with your family this summer? Typhoon Waterpark is the perfect solution! Typhoon Texas is one of only two waterparks in the Houston area. It is a brand-new waterpark that recently opened in May. It is located at 555 South Katy Fort Bend Road, Katy, TX 77494, and it is a great place for some family fun.

About the Waterpark

From the Lazy T River to the Duelin’ Dalton’s, the park offers a wide variety of attractions and rides for all ages and preferences. Oh! And let’s not forget about the amazing food options offered in the park! The park also serves some delicious snacks. And a variety of “made-from-scratch, restaurant quality” foods that caters to all. So when you’re needing to fuel up and take a little break from the rides, there are plenty of shady and cool spots to enjoy these Southern-inspired creations.

You can either get a season pass to enjoy the park whenever you and your family would like all summer long. Or a day pass. The park is open Sunday through Wednesday from 10:30am to 8:00pm and Thursday through Saturday from 10:30am to 10:00pm. Houston Family Fun | The Houston Museum of Natural Science

Are you looking for a fun family outing this summer?  Somewhere indoors to beat the heat, but educational to keep those little minds stimulated? The Houston Museum of Natural Science has something for everyone, big and small.  Not only do they have their permanent exhibits but there are also travelling ones as well. 

Some of the favorite tried and true things to visit include; the Texas Wildlife Exhibit, which includes plants and animals from the seven biotic regions of Texas; the Welch Chemistry Hall and its interactive displays; and Paleontology, containing over sixty dinosaur skeleton mounts, it is one of the largest paleontology halls in the country. 

About the Museum

Do not forget to stop by the Cockrell Butterfly Center while you are there. This three story glass building, filled with live butterflies and tropical plants, is quite the experience for all ages.  This interactive exhibit is one your kids are sure to remember.  The upcoming temporary exhibit is Faces From the Southern Ocean, a selection of photography by J.J. L’Heureux.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science ranks just below New York City’s American Museum of Natural History and M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco as most attended, excluding the Smithsonian Museums.

Houston Family Fun | Main Street Theater

If you are looking for a fun experience to bring stories to life for your kids this summer, Main Street Theater is the place for you.  Their Theater for Youth produces engaging, family friendly entertainment based on children’s literature.  Local performances take place in two facilities. Their Rice Village home on Times Blvd. and MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston) on Main Street.  Seen on stage in the past have been such favorites as Junnie B Jones and Stuart Little.  Do not miss Dorothy and Toto. Coming to the stage June 14- July 30. The classic that every child should experience, The Wizard of Oz, is sure to be a winner with your youngster.

About Main Street Theater

Looking for fun and free? Check out the Page to Stage Book Club with your crew.  This free event allows students to hear readings from a story. And meet characters and other fun activities while there.  The next meeting is Shrek the Musical, Tuesday, June 21 at 2 pm at Blue Willow Book Shop on Memorial Drive. 

Main Street Theater also offers many different Summer Camps for ages 4-18 for your little actor or actress. Multiple locations throughout the Houston Area are offered.  If your child has been bitten by the ever so contagious acting bug, and summer camp is just not enough, they also offer classes and Student Productions.

Whether interested in exposing your family to educational entertainment, fostering a love for the stage or just interested in some story time, Main Street Theater has something for everyone.
